Workouts for stay at Home Mom’s and Dad’s

Finding the time to get a workout in while trying to raise kids, make healthy meals, do the whole car pool thing, PTA, sports, and an occasional bathroom break is not an easy thing to do.  I know because that sounds like my life. I have a little girl in dance, and a boy in karate, lucky for me they go to the same school. But I do have to take them to their doctors’ appointments, piano practice, make the meals and get them ready for school and try to find time to run two online businesses, restore an old car, and an occasional bathroom break.

Oh yeah and the whole workout thing…………….trying to find that time as well, but I do find it somewhere and I want to share it with you, because it can be done with a little time management effort.  I am going to give you 5 tips on what I do to get my workouts in. Once you do it a few times it will get easier and easier.

Tip 1- One thing I try to do is get up 15 minutes earlier. I will take about 10 minutes or so and stretch. I know this doesn’t sound like much, but it definitely gets the body going and you are ready to start your day. It’s amazing what a little stretch will do in the morning.

Tip 2- I get my kids involved. My little girl loves to meditate and stretch with me and my boy likes to work out with dumbbells with me. Get them involved and have them do some exercises with you to make it more fun for the whole family. Both my kids like to walk and ride their bikes. That is good exercise too. If you make them part of your workout then there is a better chance of you working out that day.

Tip 3- I try and wear my workout clothes most of the day. If I know I don’t have anything planned that day where I will need to dress up then I will wear my workout clothes from the time I get up. That way I am ready and have the mind set to get a quick workout in. Just having on the right clothes will put you in the mood.

Tip 4- I will write it down on my to do list for that day. Or I will put it in my calendar. If it’s in there or on my list I am more apt to do it. I want things off my list so I will try to do that in the morning before I leave the house to run my errands. I might be gone until the kids get home from school or if I pick them up that day, we might have something planned after school.

Tip 5- I try and make my chores a workout. If I have to cook or do laundry, or maybe vacuum, I will use that as an opportunity to work out.

I hope this helps you get a little work out in to stay healthy and fit.  As always, let me know if I can help you in any way.

Have a great day!
