How to stay fit when traveling?

Having the motivation to exercise while traveling is tough, but the trick is not to over think it. There are plenty of ways to stay fit without going to the gym. Let’s look at some travel exercise equipment and some clever fitness hacks perfect for traveling.

So a lot of people are getting back to traveling again from the pandemic. Either you are traveling for work or traveling for vacation, family reunion, a wedding, or just for fun, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up your workout routine. Taking a break from work or other commitments doesn’t mean you neglect yourself and your health. Make sure to always put the time in for exercise and staying on track with your nutrition. It will be a lot harder to get back into the routine when you return than it would be just to keep up with it while traveling. So here are my suggestions of what to pack to exercise while traveling. Keep these things in mind the next time you pack for a trip and you will set yourself up for success.

Tip: Maybe the hotel you are staying at has a gym (fitness area) or a pool! Check before you go!

Some exercise accessories you might want to consider packing.

  1. Good running shoes
  2. Jump rope
  3. Ab Roller
  4. Resistance Bands
  5. Yoga Mat
  6. Workout Clothes (Leggings, Sports Bra, Shorts, tank tops or t-shirts, Sweat Pants, etc.)

Some travel tips to get a workout in:

  1. Try to walk everywhere if you’re able to. Depending on where you are going, staying, and doing of course, try to walk most places. This will get you exercising and burning those calories.
  2. Try to go for a morning run. If you are in a new city going for a morning run is a great way to get a good exercise in and do some site seeing along the way.  If it is early morning, going for a run or walk can really boost your mood, your energy level for the rest of the day and you might be able to stop by a local coffee shop and grab a good cup of Joe!
  3. Check out local parks or trails (If you have time). Checking out local parks and trails in a new city or town is a great way of getting a workout in and seeing something new. You never know what you’ll find at other parks. Ask the locals if there is a park or trail nearby.
  4. Rent a bike. There are a lot of towns now that offer bike rentals for the day or the hour depending on your time frame. But even an hour is better than nothing! I went on a vacation to Mackinac Island in Michigan one year. https://www.mackinacisland.org.   It was beautiful. There are no motorized vehicles on the island except for emergency. You have to either get around by bike, walk, or horseback. I rented a bike one day and then a horse one day. After the horse day, I couldn’t sit down for a week because of my boney butt didn’t have enough cushion for all that bouncing! But I do highly recommend going up there! (Side note; This island is where they filmed “Somewhere in Time”, with Jane Seymour, if you have ever seen the movie).

So this is just a little blog and recommendations to get you started if you are traveling again and want to continue your workouts and not give up or put your routine on the back burner until you return. Always try to do something small even for 15-30 min. It’s better than nothing at all. And always watch what you eat. I know some people can go all out while on vacation, but you don’t want to ruin all the hard work you have put in already. Stick to your gut and your plan and always put your health first!

As always, thanks for reading my blog and I hope this helps you live a happier, healthier life!
