So, my family and I just got back from vacationing in Gulf Shores, Alabama. And as we were there I noticed how many different ways there were to get a workout in. I touched on this a little bit in a previous blog, but I wanted to expand a little to let you know what I did on my vacation to get a workout in. Hopefully it will give you some ideas on your next vacation.
The first day, my 10 year old son and I rented a kayak and went fishing. I turned that into a workout with rowing. I brought my tennis shoes with me to walk or run up and down the street where we were staying in the Air B&B. I could get up early and watch a YouTube video before everyone got up to get my workout in. The next day my little 7 year old daughter and I went to the beach. That was a workout, playing in the water and Frisbee on the beach, plus swimming. Now granted we had to do some of these things early due to the heat advisory throughout the East coast. With the heat index, it was supposed to get in the triple digits. That’s Hot!
I know some people ask me how I got a workout in when I’m not home or if I go away for a week or so. I just tell them to improvise, adapt, and over come. You have to get creative and look at what you have around you and look at the certain activity you are doing and turn it into a workout. Some people believe if they don’t get into a “gym” than it’s not working out. There are plenty of things you can do outside the gym that do not require weights, machines, dumbbells, or any fancy equipment. Also, before you go on your trip look at the area and get in touch with some local gyms or fitness centers because sometimes they will give vacationers a week pass for a small price. That way if you do have time and want to get a workout in at a local gym you have that as an option.
These are just a few examples of what you can do on your vacation. The bad part of this vacation with my family is my kids and I ended up with Covid and was sick part of the time. They flew back after the week vacation and I had the long 13 hour drive back to North Carolina that felt like 13 days! I try to find the good and positive in people and in whatever I do, so even with Covid I tried to make the most of it and look on the bright, positive side. I still got to see family, had fun with the activities we got to do, and had some good food. I tried to make the trip not so long by listening to music and taking in the sites.
So, basically my point to this blog post is to be positive, look at the good in your situation, and get creative in your workouts. Look around and use your imagination, it’s better to do a little something off the wall, than to not do any workout at all. You just need to get moving, burn those calories, and be/stay active. It’s easy if you just try.
I hope this helps just one person find the good in others, the positive in your situation and the creativeness to keep moving!
Thanks for reading my blogs and as always, You only get one body….Make the change! I hope you live a happier, healthier life,
Until next time!
Take Care, Darren
