How to start meal planning

Welcome to my blog. I am glad that you have found the source of good informative information about fitness and nutrition.

This topic is on meal planning. With the gas prices rising, we need to think about our spending in other areas. Meals, grocery store visits, and food in general are all ways to save money and think about different ways and tips to do that. Meal planning is a good way to save money at home and at the grocery store. But, how do you start? What supplies do I need? Is there a right way or wrong way? What do I buy? I am going to try and answer these questions and more for you here.

What is meal planning?

Meal planning is basically, deciding the meals you need and want to eat duringthe week either for you alone or as a family. By knowing this information in advance, the meals you prepare, and the ingredients to prepare them, will set yourself up to make healthier choices and avoid poor food choices either at the grocery store or out. This in turn will improve your overall health and save your wallet.

How do you start?

Well there are about 3-5 factors to consider when starting a meal plan. These are your available time to cook and go to the store, seasonal food options, special occasions, and of course financial resources. These are just a few things to think about, however, there are more depending on the person, number of family members, and location. So to start a meal plan simply review your schedule and decide what day is best to plan your meals, cook the food, go to the store and so on. My wife and I go over our schedule on Thursdays because we do the grocery store pick up on Saturdays. So we decide our meals, plan our grocery list and see what we already have and then we are set.

What supplies do I need?

There are no real special supplies needed. If you are meal planning or meal prepping depends on the supplies you will use and need. For planning you just need a schedule and some good healthy recipes, a grocery list and then go shopping. For meal prep, you will need the same things but you will need to set a day to cook all your meals at once and store them in freezer containers or fridge containers. You can also cook in bulk like a crock pot or insta pot to make more food in a shorter amount of time.

There is no right way or wrong way to meal plan. It depends on your own schedule, family, location, and finances. It just takes one day to plan and get your recipes, and go to the store. If you do your shopping online and then go pick them up curbside, you will spend less money and make healthier choices.

Beginner Tip: Start small, and schedule one recipe your first week, and try two recipes the week after that. Increase the number of recipes each week until you find a balance that fits your lifestyle, your budget, and your schedule.
