Welcome back and thanks for learning with us. Today’s Blog is on Quercetin. What it is, the health benefits, and where you can find it or get it. Many people have never heard of it and others have but don’t realize that they take it by way of the foods they eat. But today we are going to find out exactly what it is.
What is Quercetin?
Quercetin is a type of flavonoid. Flavonoids are plant-based compounds that have antioxidant properties, which are substances that can neutralize free radicals. This particular flavonoid is present in many fruits and vegetables, including apples, onions, and berries. It is also available in supplement form which we will talk about later.
Quercetin has many potential health benefits. Some research suggests it may help to reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and improve blood sugar control. Research also suggests, it may have anticancer properties.
Health Benefits
Studies have shown that quercetin can help reduce the risk of both heart attack and stroke. How? By reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, which are two major contributing factors to cardiovascular disease. It also helps to improve the function of the endothelium – a layer of cells that line the blood vessels. In addition, quercetin has also been proven to regulate blood sugar control. It is an important nutrient that should be included in a healthy diet especially for diabetics.
According to a new study, quercetin may help protect against cancer. The study found that it can kill cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed. It is a natural compound found in many fruits and vegetables. Because Quercetin is a plant-based compound that has powerful anti-inflammatory effects, it can help reduce the symptoms of inflammatory conditions like arthritis, asthma, and eczema. It is also a potent antioxidant, which means it can help to protect your cells from oxidative damage. Research has shown that it’s a powerful antioxidant that can help to ease allergy symptoms as well.
Quercetin also has a lot of neurological benefits such as improvement in cognitive function and memory, help protect the brain from age-related damage and degeneration. It has also been shown to reduce inflammation in the brain, which is thought to be one of the causes of many neurological diseases. According to recent studies, quercetin may help to lower blood pressure. The body uses Quercetin to produce nitric oxide, which helps to relax the blood vessels.
Another great benefit of quercetin is that it can help to relieve pain. It works by reducing inflammation and swelling. This can help to reduce pain in the joints and muscles especially after heavy exercise, sports, or even surgery. Quercetin is a natural compound that has been shown to promote eye health and protect against age-related vision problems. A recent study found that by adding quercetin in your diet improved visual function in older adults. The study participants who took these supplements experienced significant improvements in their ability to see at night and to recover from glare. These benefits make it a promising natural treatment for age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in older adults.
Where to get it and find it
Quercetin is found in many foods such as broccoli, onions, tomatoes, kale, green leafy veggies, berry, grapes, cherries, apples, and buckwheat just to name a few. I am sure from that list you can find it or get it in your diet. Also, it comes in supplement form as well, which is how I take it to make sure I’m getting enough. Due to the pesticides and other things they put on fruit and vegetables, there may be some vitamins and minerals that will be reduced and your body will still need more to get up to a normal range.
Thank you for reading my blog and I hope this helps clear up what this amazing compound is and the many health benefits that it can bring. I hope you keep this in mind while you’re grocery shopping and picking out your favorite fruit and veggies. As always I hope you live a healthy happy life.
Take care,
Darren
