What is Primal Living?

Welcome to my blog! Here we talk about everything health; from nutrition, exercise, health coaching, and living a healthy lifestyle. If there is anything you want me to research and discuss here please let me know. I am always interested in learning new things and talking about the research and science behind living a happier, healthier life. Today’s blog topic is on Primal Living. What is Primal Living? What are the ten laws of Primal Living? The benefits of Primal Living. So let’s dive right in and learn about this new way of living.

What is Primal Living?

Primal Living in a nutshell is about refocusing your way of life and how you live it to be more in touch with the natural aspects of life. This way of life means you focus on your well-being from a natural standpoint. There are multiple aspects of life, such as diet, exercise, sleep, and thinking just to name a few that can be shifted to follow a more primal path. Principally speaking, it focuses on living the way our caveman ancestors lived or thought to have lived. Today people are focused on wellness as a whole and not just physically. A lot of people believe that without the mental and emotional (and sometimes spiritual) aspects of a wellness program there is something missing. Which I believe 100%. This is my whole basis on this blog. Living a more rounded lifestyle to be a happier, healthier you!

The 10 Laws of Primal Living

According to the Primalblueprint.com (https://www.primalblueprint.com/blogs/primal-blueprint/the-10-laws-of-the-primal-blueprint) the 10 primal laws are not this modern creation that just started today, it’s the laws that have been around and that have governed human existence for 2 million years. These laws make up the activities and lifestyle that our ancestors once adopted to living a healthier, stronger, more versatile life. So here are the top 10 laws that our ancestors once lived by:

Law 1) Diet- Eat lots of animals and plants. Focus on the quality sources of protein such as fish, and fowl. Consume a lot of colorful vegetables with some selected fruits but stick to berries and nuts. Consume healthy fats, such as nuts, avocados, and olive oil. One thing that is surprising and interesting is the portion control of this lifestyle. Their portion control is monitoring their calories week to week, not meal to meal. The bulk of your meals should come from animal protein while eliminating grains, sugar, and trans fats from your diet. This is also interesting because of my previous blog on eliminating grains from your diet due to the health issues that it causes.

Law 2) Move around a lot- With this lifestyle moving aroun a lot and performing a low-level aerobic activity a few hours a week is optimal. This exercise or “moving” could be in the form of swimming, walking, easy bike riding, just to name a few. Find time and an excuse to go barefoot.

Law 3) Lift heavy objects- Go to the gym and lift heavy weight a few times a week. Try to focus your weight training on the entire body and try to focus on a wider range of motion instead of the isolation exercises. Perform functional training the movements and the ways our ancestors did.

Law 4) Run really fast sometimes- (or just do some form of intense bike, uphill treadmill). Focus on the quality of the exercises and not the duration. Short bursts increase the growth hormones in the body.

Law 5) Get plenty of sleep- I think we all know about this one but sometimes with jobs, kids, school, and everything it is hard for some people. But in one of my blog posts I talk about how sleep is very important in your overall health and well-being.

Law 6) Play- get outside and do some sort of activity. Spend some quality time with you friends, spouse, children or whoever in activities to reduce the stress hormones in the body and get rid of the negative and be more positive.

Law 7) Get some sun!- Avoid getting so much sun that you burn, but get enough to get a tan or get your vitamin- D fix. Natural sunlight, as we all know, has positive mood enhancing properties, which could enhance your work day or your day off to get stuff done.

Law 8) Avoid trauma- Try to eliminate self-destructive behaviors. Some examples of these are obvious, however some people might not be self-aware of their behavior. Wearing your seatbelt, not smoking or doing drugs, etc.

Law 9) Try to avoid poisons- Avoid toxins in your food, such as pesticides, herbicides, and chemicals. Avoid GMO foods, and any chemicals either cleaning, or environmental as well.

Law 10) Use your Brain! – Exercise your brain too. Read, do crossword puzzles, and be creative in your quest of brain games! Try to find time to learn something new such as a new language, musical instrument, or maybe cooking.

While primal living may be challenging for some people to fully commit to, some pieces should be relatively easy to fit into your current lifestyle. You never know, you just might surprise yourself and want to become more involved in this primal lifestyle. After trying out this earth-friendly way of life, let me know what you think and how you got started. Let me know also whether it is something you can sustain or is it something you just wanted to try.

Conclusion

So I hope this helps you understand this “new” lifestyle that we, as humans, have been doing for 2 million years. Let me know if you have tried it and as always, I wish you the best on your journey to becoming a happier, healthier you!

Take care and remember………..You only get one body………..Make the change!
