Welcome to my blog, Harmony Shift. This is the ultimate site where I help shift workers live a happier, healthier life through fitness, nutrition, journaling, meditation, and positivity. I am so glad you joined us in today’s topic, Breaking the Soda Pop Habit! Americans frequently enjoy soda because it’s readily available. Almost all food establishments now carry soda. Soda pop has become a staple of the American diet, making it harder and harder to avoid and give up. But today, I am going to tell you how you can break this habit. Especially for shift workers who seem to reach for that soda to help them get through that hard shift.
Not that Sodapop!
Tips To Break the Habit
Here are my tips if you are trying to break the habit or have tried in the past and want to try again. I know it can be hard to break this particular habit, but I did and I haven’t had a soda in almost 20 years! I worked construction in Florida, and I was drinking about a 6 pack of soda a day. After about 2 months or so it burned when I peed and I knew I was hurting my kidneys so I just told myself, that’s it I can’t do it anymore. I cut way back to about maybe a glass every other day, then eventually quit all together. Florida is very hot working outside, but the soda wasn’t quenching my thirst, so I drank more and then more and so on. I finally realized that this isn’t working I had to do something else. So, these tips below I have tried and they work!
- Avoid using it as a thirst quencher.
- Try a different caffeine drink instead.
- Figure the calories and sugar you’re drinking.
- Find a replacement.
- Just don’t buy it.
- Avoid being hungry.
Try these and see if any or all of them work for you. To add a little bit of information to this list I will explain them briefly. They are pretty self-explanatory but just in case I can tell you how I did it and maybe you can get the idea.
So, basically, I stopped using it to quench my thirst because it wasn’t working anyway. I switched to Powerade, Gatorade, water, and some other sports drinks with less sugar, and not that fizzy stuff. You can try a different caffeine drink such as coffee or tea if you need the caffeine. A lot of times people drink soda without realizing how many calories they consume a day just from that drink alone. It adds up!
I hope this small list helps you in large ways. Just pay close attention to how many sodas you consume in a day and try to cut back. You will be amazed at how you feel, the weight loss, and the energy you have. Your kidneys will thank you too.
Until next time!
Darren
