The Benefits of Physical Activity at Work

With the World Health Organization (WHO) recommending adults participate in at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise every week, this could be impossible (well not really) for some of us. But the good news is that this can be broken down into sessions: for example, 30 minutes a day for five days a week. Ok, but where and when is the 30 minutes coming from?
With work accounting for a large part portion of our time during the day, and home and family commitments taking up much of what is left, it’s easy to see why many of us are failing in this department. One solution is for workplaces to make physical activity a priority. They could have it where everyone has the opportunity to achieve, at least, 30 minutes of exercise each day throughout the working week.

Hobbies Tied to Happiness and Overall Wellbeing

Did you know that taking up a hobby also improves your relationships. Yes, believe it or not, with co-workers and family, spouse, friends, and neighbors. If you find like-minded people who enjoy doing the same activities as you, it could have added benefits as well. Research shows that doing activities in groups such as team sports or volunteering helps enhance your communication skills and build healthy relationships.

Don’t Take Advice From Social Media Influencers

Take caution when getting information about your health and well-being on sites that are not legit. When you are reading about weight loss “quick” fixes don’t believe them! There is no quick fix to weight loss. It is a time, tested, researched, and long process. Do not take advice from sites that do not have researched, evidence-based information. When in doubt, check with your doctor, personal trainer, dietician, or nutritionist.

Should You Go Grain Free

Grains are basically the edible seeds of certain grasses (in a nutshell). Without the nuts! So, anyway some examples of such grains are wheat, rice, oats, corn, barley, millet, rye, spelt just to name a few or most of them. There are some grains referred to as “pseudo-grains” such as quinoa, buckwheat, and amaranth. These are technically seeds so I know the people that follow a grain free diet generally stay away from these as well.

Kaizen: What is it? And How Can We Use it?

One way to improve our lives is making small improvements a little bit at a time. We can learn from the Japanese term “Kaizen”. This term means to change for the better or continuous improvement. I will discuss what it is and how to implement it into your life so you can make small changes that will have lasting results.

Is it Intuitive Eating or Mindful Eating?

Intuitive eating is actually a very simple idea. It basically means that you make peace with all types of food. You see, unlike traditional diets that restrict or “ban” certain foods, intuitive eating requires you to stop looking at food as “good” or “bad.” Instead, listen to your own body and eat what feels right for YOU. You might think this means you can and should just eat whatever you want, anytime you want. No! That’s not the case. Experts say intuitive eating means that you tap into your body’s natural ability to tell you when you’re hungry or satisfied.

Best Snacks for Night Shift

Working the night shift may drastically alter your life in one way or another. The human body is meant to function during the day and relax or sleep at night. Frequent changes in shift work have a huge influence on one’s internal body clock. Particularly night shifts disrupt the body’s biorhythm. Working against your natural body biorhythms presents challenges that adds extra stress when you work night shifts. Eating a nutritious diet can help productivity and maintain focus at work throughout the night or early morning.

Have A Better Shift; Organizing, Strategizing!

When you’re working odd hours of the day, it may be difficult to stray away from social media. Indulging in ample amounts of blue light and diving into the rabbit hole of scrolling will not only exhaust you mentally but may leave you feeling disconnected from everyone. The digital world will always be there. Don’t forget to make time to connect with the real world, but at the same time connect with yourself.
