Top Five Proven Benefits of Meditation in the Workplace

Welcome to my blog! The health and wellness of shift work. So, today’s topic is on meditation in the workplace. I will list my top five benefits and maybe you can try these out your next shift and let me know what you think. We have all heard of meditating and the benefits that meditation can bring. But what if you work a rotating shift or nights. What can meditating do for you? Let’s dive into this whole new world of shift work and meditation and see if it’s right for you.

Meditation and mindfulness help to bring your attention and thoughts inward. Through this inward focus, you become more present and help you with any thoughts or negative feelings that may arise during your day (or night). Studies have shown that meditation in the workplace increases employee happiness, productivity, and decreases burnout. It is a great way to unwind with coworkers, have a chance to relax in a stressful setting, and develop an interest in something else other than work.

Meditation can lower stress. Learning to manage your stress will eventually cause a domino effect of positive outcomes. While decreasing your stress, you also lower your blood pressure and reduce your chances of developing heart disease and stroke. Meditation will boost your energy and increase your productivity and quality at work. One way this works is that meditation helps with insomnia by giving you the benefit of clearing your mind of stressors that normally would affect you. By helping you get better sleep will in turn help you through your shift.

Meditation improves your quality of work by increasing your ability to work under stress through a heightened sense of focus and attention. It keeps you from making careless mistakes or multitasking. Studies have also shown through meditation comes creativity. Increasing your self-awareness, you will gain a compassion for others and improve your communication and increase or improve your mood. Studies have shown over and over again that meditation has long term effects. Through daily practice, meditation can change your whole outlook and how you engage with the world. You will be calmer, more levelheaded and meditation will become a habit and a way of life. This is important to consider while doing shift work. Shift work has been proven to have a negative effect on your health, but by practicing meditating, you can decrease these effects and tackle your shift with energy, stamina, and a positive mood and outlook.

In conclusion, try meditating before, during or after your shift to create a positive environment and increase your mood, and relationship with coworkers, friends, and family. Give it a try and let me know what effects it had on your life.

Take care,

Darren
